Have you ever gotten to a point where you felt like quitting? Where everything seems to go wrong? Where nothing ever seems to be right no matter how hard you tried? Well, these feelings are normal and can happen to anyone, but the remarkable thing is how you deal with the problems. Staying above your insecurities, and finding preferable solutions to them. Do not ever allow your challenges to weigh you down, or allow them overwhelm you, thereby hindering you from achieving your desired goals.
To get to your desired point, you need to be purpose driven, determined, disciplined and consistent. Without these qualities, you may end up not getting there eventually or losing the zeal at the end.” One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat” Napoleon Hill. Nothing great comes without risk, but risks are temporary and are challenges that sharpen the inner fire in you. Risk helps you to learn new things and open your path to opportunities you can overcome to become a better you. But when you allow your challenges to weaken your resolve, achieving your dreams might become impossible. Eyes fixed on the goal regardless of whatever circumstance you find yourself, you should not be deterred.
QUALITIES TO KEEP YOU ON TRACK
BE DIFFERENT: What makes you different from your peers, are the extraordinary attributes you posed, making you stand out from the ordinary people around you. The most beautiful thing about human is that we are all endowed with one or more extraordinary characteristics, the ability to discover the potential in you, and maximizing that potential to your greatest advantage, is what made you EXTRA-ordinary. An ordinary individual is complacent and accept things the way they come even if he is not comfortable with them. He does nothing to change his situation and sees not potential bestowed in him, to the point of taking advantage of them. You have to be different from this ordinary individual. If you really want to make a difference, you have to settle down and think, cook up ideas, discover what interest you, find out what you have passion for and manage your findings wisely.
SELECT YOUR FRIENDS: Since you have discovered what interest you, the next option is to start working on them. Definitely, you can’t do it alone, don’t use that as an excuse not to try. The first step you took will put you in a position you don’t imagine. From personal experience, I had interest in writing, since I was young but I never get myself to start doing it. Every time, I make up excuses to defend myself as to why I haven’t started.” I don’t have a good phone, I am not a pro with words, am nobody, it won’t end up well” are some of the numerous excuses I made to myself. I got to a point where I was so tired of making excuses, and I actually took a paper and pen and wrote something. Then I posted it to a friend, who I know writes a lot and that’s it! She loved my write-up and posted it to a whatsapp group where leading student writers are and they were all wowed. I couldn’t believe myself, when friends began to question where I have been hiding all this while. Then, I wrote another and another and another! I was added to groups with people of like minds who motivated and inspired me. They criticize your work, so you can see your faults and work on them for you to get better. Your potential will select your friends for you without you knowing. Make friends with people who are experts at your chosen field, listen to their stories and be motivated, interact and give them gifts or probably invite them to lunch. All these are bridging opportunities that might come handy tomorrow. Those friends who will keep you motivated and going on and will always remind you of who you are whenever you get lost and you don’t know which way to turn.
TACKLE YOUR FEARS: Guess what? Fears are normal and are part of every individual. Successful people today all have fears one time; the only extraordinary attribute they possessed is that they were brave enough to face their fears. Your fears are point for you to grow, the moment you know how to deal with them, you are a warrior. I once stumbled on a statement while reading a self development book by Brian Tracy, and it said thus; the only difference between a brave individual and a coward is that, the brave one disciplines himself to confront, deal with and act in spite of fear. In contrast, the coward allows himself to be dominated and controlled by fear. So my dear champion, who are you? A brave one right, so don’t ever allow your fears to cow you down. You can only sail through, when you face what you think you cannot do at all. Aristotle said “To develop quality that you lack, act as if you already had that quality in every situation where it is required”. In a more precise term, “Fake what you lack, till you get what you want”. Act like you are strong; when you are weak, like you are brave; when you are nervous, like you are happy; when you are sad, be strong and confront your battles to achieve your extraordinary desires.
BE DISCIPLINED: To achieve your dreams, you need to make plans and stick to them. Self discipline is doing the right thing at the right moment even if you are not in the convenient state for it. Working towards your goal is a tedious affair, as humans, we tend to be lazy or unsure sometimes, but discipline keeps you on track. Make your daily plans on what to do; what new thing to learn, where to go, a conference you should attend, and an article you want to write, and adhere to the plan. Do them all, don’t be lazy, caution yourself and have a constant reminder that “until you get to where you are going, you should not rest”. Human beings are purpose driven, you feel happy and in control of your life only when you have a clear goal that you are working toward each day. You need to be clear about what you want to accomplish and your inner passion will push you on. Discipline keeps you in check and in control of your behavior, it prevents you from giving in to the thought that keep popping up telling you, you have time, you can do this later. My dear, time is nowhere to be found, it is running and running and wait for no one. Do what you have to do now, and don’t procrastinate.
BE PREPARED FOR FAILURE: Sometimes, you put in all your best into a project and eventually, it didn’t end out well. This could probably due to lapses you fail to see, or you overlooked, turning all your effort to nothing. This should not stop you from trying again, because failures are stepping stones to rise higher. When you encounter failure, you sit at your work again, scrutinizing it closely, and you will realize some mistakes you failed to see earlier, and certainly some other time, and you won’t make those mistakes again. Failure allows you to learn new things, makes you more experienced and brave, it changes your perception about your belief, and also helps you discover yourself better. Every time you learn something new and apply it to whatsoever circumstance you find yourself, you will achieve a great sense of personal strength which improves you self respect and personal pride. Lifelong personal development and devotion to personal excellence requires tremendous dedication, discipline and will power.
EXPAND YOUR IDEAS: Yes, you’ve this haunting idea that keeps popping into your mind and you have taken a step at achieving them by working on it. You are happy right; I bet you are. Guess what? You are not the only one doing that at the moment. A lot of people are becoming self conscious and discovering what interest them. How do you stand out from others? You have to work on your ideas. Polish your line of interest with expensive decors that makes it one among others. Think on what other options you can pursue to be different from others. Consult intellectual and creative bodies and table your ideas to them, brainstorm on how to go on a more exclusive level and make it happen. It will end up becoming your selling point, putting you on an edge above others. This makes you more extra-ordinary above the extra-ordinary and other people will look up to you.
MAKE AN IMPACT: The number of people you made an impact on determines how successful you are. The moment you decided to start making a difference, people begin to look up to you. You become a role model to the public, and you may not know it. Just in case, you get to a point of quitting, remember the people you are letting down, the young people following your step secretly that you are unaware of. Remember the reason why you started at first, Remember why you started; before giving up and let your will drive you on. You can be anywhere and lead people. Just develop your potentials and expand your scope, promote your ideas and don’t limit your knowledge. Try out new things and read wide and wide as knowledge is as wide as the ocean. Be effective and put smile on faces; reach out to the less privilege.
ENJOY WHAT YOU DO: Dedicated to a field wherein you derive pleasure is a direct shot to success. Doing what comes naturally to you, without any form of pressure is one beautiful passport to success. Success is not only measured by how much you have acquired, but also deriving pleasure from what you do.
ACCEPT CRITICISM: While working hard towards achieving your goal, you need to be open minded and ready to be criticized. A lot of people are waiting and watching what step you want to take, they scrutinize a job you think you have done so perfect, bringing out the faults in them. You should keep this circle of friends because they help you put more effort and work on your left to-do. Be ready to be criticized, in order to move forward in life, then review the critics and find out the best to work on. Also, learn to shut out negativity around you and appreciate your efforts before others do. Never look down on yourself or feel inferior to other people around you. Build your self esteem and be bold and confident, stand up to your opinions and defend them objectively.
BE GOD CONSCIOUS: Our primary purpose of being on earth is to worship our creator. We should always remember this and no matter how endowed you can be, you can never do it alone without GOD. Success is directly proportional to hard work, provided prayer is kept constant. Be grateful for everything you are blessed with and show it by being good to others. Help others in need, which lack the opportunities you could afford and always be ready to serve humanity. The main reason you are blessed so much, is to make humanity better than you met it; and so be up and doing. Put as much effort as you do to your personal success to your religious obligations. Personal development is not completed without spiritual development. These factors should go simultaneously in order to attain personal success.
In conclusion, Success is only feasible, when you don’t stop trying. You may not be perfect at first, but constant practice and trial sharpens you and groom you for future expectations. Be clear about your goals and be true to yourself; you need to have goals to accomplish worthwhile things in life. You can’t hit a target that you can’t see, therefore state clearly what interest you and devote yourself in working towards achieving it. In life, you either work to achieve your own goal or you work to achieve the goals of someone else.
