In the world we live today, the better way to tell or sell your personality to people is through effective communication and the best form of communication is writing. With writing, you attract like-minds, you get yourself positioned for opportunities, make yourself employable graduate, you have higher chance to improve in your academic performance and you can handsomely earn while you are still studying, the opportunities that comes with writing know no bounds. It just afloat everywhere.
Conceptually, writing is defined as the form of expressing one’s of thoughts and emotions through the use of graphical symbols. This definition solely implies that we all have what is running through us either a problem or solution that is needed to be expressed to effectively make change in the society, which means if not expresed nothing will be changed. That is why I will go by the mantra that says:” say it or perish”.
The significance of writing does not at any point has limitation, it creates an impression that has no expiration, it is solemnly hinged on posterity. Validating this is with the expression of Benjamin Franklin which says: “If you don’t want to be forgotten as soon as you are dead and rotten, it is either you write something worth reading or do something worth writing about”. The assessment is not a farfetch possibility, we can all look around for examples of those who are dead but what they have given up their lives for, create an everlasting impression within us. Summarily, writers never died they live on.
Writing and writing well as an undergraduate is not something easily achieved at a goal; just as why Rome was not built in a day. It is a continual process of rigorous development. Factually, those who you admire also aspire to be someone else in the industry, it thus mean no master; the mastery is self improvement. As an undergraduate regardless of your discipline- Medicine, politics, business- you need to effectively communicate and that is why knowing how to right well is essential. To effectively communicate well via writing, the following are certain traits you must have:
Firstly, to become a successful writer, you have to hinge your interest on a purpose. A goal targeted at a purposeful mindset is halfway realized. The reason why creative writers are few is because many just aspire to be one but knew not the reason of “why”, you do not just wish to be a writer but you must know the reason why for that. “Why do you want to be a writer?”, While I leave you to justify your personal “why”, let me intimate you with popular but rare one. Do you want to die and not to be forgotten? Do you wish to earn in Dollars like J.K Rowling? Do you wish to socially effect change in your surroundings? Knowing your why will help you redefine your purpose and subsequently reactivate your interest in writing. Therefore, if you align your interest with purpose you will not want anything to touch it and achieving it will be an ultimate goal.
Secondly, be willing to learn everytime through reading. According to Stephen J. King: ” If you want to be an effective writer you must do two things above other things; read alot and write alot”. To write something worth reading, you have to read so many things that will productively widen your horizon. As a writer, you must consume as much you can to reproduce as creative and logical as you wish. Reading extensively will increase your mental horizon. It will expose you to many writing styles. Explands your vocabularies and as well allow ideas to spontaneously flow in you which will ultimately increase your writing skill.
Thirdly, successful writers keep writing. They do not just read for reading sake, but they constantly reproduce what they read in an appealing way. The consistent practice of a successful writer is a
